How pressure conversion works
The converter calculates through the pascal, the SI base unit. In practice you will most often meet the bar (1 bar = 100,000 Pa), hectopascals in weather forecasts, and psi for tyres and American equipment.
Normal atmospheric pressure is 1 atm = 101,325 Pa = 1,013.25 hPa = 760 mmHg. Car tyre pressure is usually 2.2–2.5 bar, which is roughly 32–36 psi.

What is psi and how do I convert it to bar?
Psi (pound per square inch) is pound-force per square inch: 1 psi = 6.895 kPa = 0.0689 bar. A tyre pressure of 32 psi corresponds to roughly 2.2 bar.
Why is air pressure given in hectopascals?
The hectopascal is numerically identical to the older millibar, so meteorology could switch to SI without changing values. Normal sea-level pressure is 1,013.25 hPa.
What does mmHg mean?
Millimetre of mercury – a historical unit from mercury manometers: 1 mmHg = 133.32 Pa. It is still used in medicine for blood pressure (e.g. 120/80 mmHg).
