How net salary is calculated in Slovenia in 2026

Employee contributions of 22.1% in total are deducted from the gross salary first: pension and disability insurance (PIZ) 15.5%, health insurance 6.36%, unemployment insurance 0.14% and parental protection 0.10%. Since July 2025 a long-term care contribution (dolgotrajna oskrba) of 1% has applied on top. None of the contributions is capped.

The compulsory health contribution (OZP) is paid separately — a fixed monthly amount of €39.36 (from March 2026, revalued each March). Unlike the percentage contributions, the OZP does not reduce the tax base. The income-tax base is gross pay minus the 22.1% contributions minus the 1% long-term care minus the general allowance.

The general allowance (splošna olajšava) is €462.66 per month. At lower incomes (gross pay up to €1,480.52) it is topped up by 1,736.03 − 1.17259 × gross pay. Income tax (dohodnina) is charged progressively on the monthly twelfths of the annual bands: 16% up to €810.12, 26% up to €2,382.70, 33% up to €4,765.41, 39% up to €6,862.19 and 50% above that.

On top of the gross salary the employer pays contributions totalling 17.1%: PIZ 8.85%, health 6.56%, work-injury 0.53%, unemployment 0.06%, parental protection 0.10% and long-term care 1%. At the minimum wage of €1,481.88 the net pay is €991.90 and the total cost of employment €1,735.28.
