This is an indicative calculation. The average hourly wage is simplified here from the annual salary (173.92 hours/month); in reality it is based on hours actually worked in the previous calendar quarter. The calculator assumes sick leave starts on a Monday, with a 5-day working week. It does not replace a ruling from the ČSSZ or professional payroll advice.
How Czech sick pay is calculated in 2026
The first 14 calendar days of sick leave are paid by the employer as wage compensation, only for missed working hours (the calculator assumes a 5-day working week and sick leave starting on a Monday). It is based on the average hourly wage, reduced through three hourly thresholds (CZK 285.78 / 428.58 / 856.98) — up to the first threshold 90% of the wage counts, between the first and second 60%, between the second and third 30%, above the third 0%. Wage compensation is 60% of this reduced hourly wage.
From calendar day 15 onward, the ČSSZ takes over as sickness benefit. The basis is the daily assessment base (DVZ) = gross monthly salary × 12 / 365, reduced through the same 90/60/30/0% bands, this time via the daily thresholds of CZK 1,633 / 2,449 / 4,897.
The sickness-benefit rate increases in stages: 60% of the reduced DVZ from day 15 to 30, 66% from day 31 to 60, and 72% from day 61 onward. The support period lasts a maximum of 380 days.
The law prescribes precise rounding: the reduced hourly wage and the daily assessment base are calculated to the nearest haléř (hundredth of a crown), while the reduced DVZ and every paid amount are rounded up to whole crowns.
